If you’re a gamer you’re probably familiar with the concept of Kickstarter. It’s a platform where independent creators of all kinds can create a campaign and get funding from individuals who believe in a project and want to support it. This independent funding has allowed tens of thousands of video games, board games, books, art, products and all sorts be created – projects that wouldn’t usually attract investment so wouldn’t otherwise be made. At the moment we have a live Kickstarter from Welsh Gaming Network member Emma, who uses the online name Lucky Lion Club.
A graphic artist by trade, she’s created a Kickstarter for a set of unique Enamel Pin badges themed around a Pokemon Trainer Kit. I know we have some Pokemon fans in the WGN so I’m hoping a few readers are getting excited now. It contains 6 different pins, 2 different keychains and absolutely smashed the £250 goal meaning it’s definitely going ahead! The project ends on January 3rd 2019 so you’ve got a little bit of time to get in there, nab some unique badges from a Welsh designer and help unlock some super secret stretch goals.
I had a chat to Lucky Lion Club and asked her to tell us a bit about herself, because I’m nosy and because it’s great to get to know members a bit better!
“As a woman who’s been gaming since a small child in the 80’s, looking forward to weekends spent watching dominion tank police and playing super street fighter. Growing up there was always the strong influences of my youth playing a part in what I did for work, even working in game station part time while I taught photoshop in uni (gotta love those staff discounts!)
Now as a freelance graphic artist, I create everything from logos for twitch streamers, to branding for small business. As an independent artist I create anime and gaming inspired streetwear and have recently created a new series of Pokemon inspired enamel pins. There will be a store launch for these in 2019 but early backers can get discounts with the current kickstarter campaign.
My love of Pokemon is definitely old school, having a poster on my wall of the original 151 and ticking each one off as i collected them playing pokemon red back in the day.
This current campaign, the trainer kit, expands on a previous regional pin I created for trainers who had visited the Kanto region.
Series one of the trainer kit allows you to collect some of the basic items all good trainers need, as well as some souvenirs unique to Kanto. With x6 enamel pins and x2 keychains to choose from as well as secret bonus add ons coming soon.”
