For those of you gamers and PC builders out there who have yet to discover the amazing products made by GameMax let me give you a quick rundown of why you should have their products at the top of your next PC Wishlist – the keywords are quality and affordability!
They have a great range of PC products and gaming peripherals which are of fantastic quality but will not break the bank, some of which we’ll be providing in depth reviews of soon.
We recently caught up with Josh from GameMax at EGX2018 and he kindly agreed to an interview with us here at the WGN, providing we let him recover from GameMax’s successful, yet hectic, 4 day showcasing at EGX2018! Given that we were equally as exhausted from just 3 days of fun at the event we more than happily obliged.
With GameMax’s ethos as “Gaming products to enable everyone to have a great experience without breaking the bank”, what led to the decision on your product range in terms of pricing and target audience?
Josh – We had a great year in 2017 in terms of products, especially at the entry level point but going in to 2018 we recognised that our community wanted options to upgrade. We made the decision that this year we would test the water so to speak and use the feedback to really refine our offering.
For us it really is about bringing as much to the table as possible whilst still keeping at a price point that is fair for you, the gamers and streamers using our cases and products. We have released a wide variety of products this year at varying price points and as the months have gone on we have learnt a lot, some cases have been really well received and others not so much. We are ok with this as this is what 2018 was all about for us, it was all about listing to the feedback from end users, reviewers and inside the industry.
I am excited about what we are bringing out in 2019 as it is you and everyone else that has engaged with us this year that has influenced our range and price point. As far as target audience, we never changed direction. We always have been and always will be working to provide the best quality cases and products for the everyday gamer and builder. We don’t produce cases that cost £200+ and we don’t want to. Gamemax at heart is the underdog and that is who we are backing, that is why our tagline is Dare To Win.
There are lots of entry level PC companies to contend with, what was your defining factor that made you stand out from them all?
Josh – It’s no secret that the budget PC hardware market is crowded and there are new players entering all the time, but we have been doing this for a while now and the team really know how to deliver a great product at an even better price. Last year our cases made it in to a few notable “best budget cases of 2017” lists and this year is looking no different. We have also been nominated for an international award, the truth is it’s all about getting the balance right between material, function, style and price. Our team have decades of experience in this industry, couple this with our willingness to adapt and listen to what our users want and it usually ends in a great product line.
GameMax has a wide selection of products including computer cases, PSU’s, all-in-one water coolers and fans, keyboards, gaming mice and headsets and most recently added to the line-up as seen at EGX 2018, some very nice looking 27-inch curved monitors. Most of which provide an impressive show of RGB lighting! What do you have planned next? Do you see yourselves improving on your current selection or could there be GameMax RAM and Motherboards somewhere down the line?
Josh – I can’t say what we are going to do further down the line but next year is all about refining our range and delivering the best products possible and a fair price based on what we have learnt this year.
At this time, you can only purchase GameMax products through select retailers such as Ebuyer, Amazon and FiercePc. Do you have any plans on selling direct to the customer in the future?
Josh – We have worked really hard to form the relationships with our resellers and it works for us, them and the users. We don’t see much benefit to selling directly (as much as we would like to). When you get down to it, the extra cost involved would force us to adjust our prices on our products and that is not something we could ever do as it goes against supporting the entry to mid users that we are so passionate about.
We recently caught up with you at EGX 2018 at the Birmingham NEC where you had a very impressive looking showcase of your products, some of which hadn’t even hit the shops yet! How was your experience at EGX 2018 and do you have any plans to attend any upcoming events?
Josh – EGX 2018 was amazing for us, it was the first time we have done any kind of show. This year has been a lot of first for us and we didn’t know what to expect from the show but we had nothing but good feedback from everyone who visited us. It gave us a great insight in to what people thought of the brand and validated that we are on the right track with our products as there was a lot of people wanting to buy there and then. We will most certainly be doing EGX 2019, as for any other shows I can’t say right now as we are in the process of exploring our options, but I am confident if we are not at a few more with our own stand we will have a presence in other ways.
Finally, as you are all gamers yourself, if you had to pick one, and only one GameMax product to use in your own PC that you could never replace, what would it be and why?
Josh – This one had me torn a little, but I think I would have to go with our Iceberg 240 AIO, as builds change over time one day I might want to change to a bigger case – so that rules them out. We do have great PSU’s but our 240 has performed fantastic in first time builds right the way up to £3000+ PC’s so I think that would be the one I would choose if I could never change it and carry it forward throughout all my future builds.
I would have to agree with Josh on his product choice as I myself have been using their Iceberg 240mm AIO watercooler for about a year now, first in my old AM3 build and now in my AM4 build. Not only does it look amazing with the RGB fans, but it keeps my Ryzen 7 around 30c under load! I can honestly say that’s the best £54 I’ve ever spent! It’s also compatible with a wide range of CPU’s.
I also use the Game Max RGB-1050w Modular 80 Plus Gold Power Supply with its amazing RGB fan and logo which is another brilliant product that I would highly recommend. So, what are you waiting for? Go check out their website www.gamemax.uk
I’d like to thank Josh and GameMax for taking part in this interview and hope to see him again at more events in the future. I am very excited to see future products as they just keep on getting better.
