Welsh gaming and technology expo Level Up Wales is back this year at Wrexham Glyndŵr University to celebrate all things video games in North Wales. This is the biggest dedicated gaming event in North Wales and this year it is looking to be even bigger this year with many developers and companies coming together in Wrexham.
Level Up Wales 2019 is a free two day event based in the Catrin Finch Centre, Wrexham Glyndŵr University, Wrexham LL11 2HS on Friday 24th of May and Saturday 25th of May 2019 from 10am until 5pm, with an afterparty on the Friday which will have the biggest collection of drunk developers you’ll find in North Wales to discuss the gaming industry with.
Arranging Level Up Wales is award winning Senior Lecturer, and the brains behind Games Wales North, Richard Hebblewhite who is quoted as saying:
“We are all excited for this year’s Level Up Wales event as we have yet another packed line up of indie studios and technologies from across North Wales.
This year has been extremely successful for us, clinching several national awards, and helping to launch yet another group independent game studios, packed with talented students.
If you’re interested in game development or getting into the industry and Level Up Wales 2019 should be on your list of things to get involved with!”
Helping to organise this event, we have several businesses coming together which includes:
ACER have fantastically agreed to bring their ACER Predator Gaming Van to Level Up Wales 2019. This will be the first time they have featured at this event, and you will find their ultra modern van outside the main entrance of the venue.
The official Partnered Charity for Level Up Wales will be Everyone Can. Everyone Can is a wonderful charity dedicated to helping people living with disabilities play video games by creating technology able to assist their needs. Everyone Can also has their own gaming centre based in Manchester. Back in March, we helped to provide them with new professional gaming chairs from Noble Chairs.
Games developers based in North Wales in attendance will include:
- Quantum Soup Studios
- Static Shell Studios (award winning game studio)
- Round Squares Studios
- Samurai Duck Studios
- RipStart Games
- Treasuremap Tales
- Techtonik Games
- Team 404
- Woblin Goblin Games
- Bladestorm Studios
- Grym Games
- Studio GuThrak
- Nefarious Games
- Titanic Games
- Evil Owl Studios
- StrayFire Studios
InstaSim, popular Welsh Gaming Network member, journalist and streamer will also be available so come have a chat with him!
Additionally, there will be a number of seminars and talks held throughout both days by games studios and technology experts from across North Wales. I would really love to hear from Ubisoft UK, who have a brand new graduate program with Wrexham Glyndŵr University after hiring so many post grad students last year!
We will also have the Level 4 Arcade Zone, which will feature family friendly arcade games created by first year students.
You can also help various available games research projects by testing innovative game applications in the Masters Collection. Last year we saw several VR devices to be used in conjunction with fitness equipment. I thought this was a wonderful use of VR and look forward to seeing what is happening this year.
This is a fantastic opportunity to get involved with the games industry and for anyone looking to become a games development student at Wrexham Glyndŵr University but will also be a fun two day event for anyone interested in gaming in Wales.
